Delonghi Dedica Improvements from the Professionals - The Coffee Makers

The De'Longhi Dedica espresso machine is very popular among coffee lovers due to its compact size and ease of use. To further optimize the performance of your Dedica and prepare first-class espresso, the following tips from the video by the coffee makers will help. You can find the full video below.

1. Using a single-walled filter

The Dedica comes standard with double-walled sieves, which artificially increase the brewing pressure and thus influence the crema. For a more authentic espresso experience, we recommend switching to single-walled sieves. These allow better control over the brewing process and improve the taste of your espresso.

2. Replacing the steam lance

The Dedica's original steam wand can be replaced with a higher quality lance. This improves steam output and makes it easier to froth milk for cappuccino or latte art.

3. Using a bottomless portafilter

A bottomless portafilter allows you to observe the extraction process directly. This allows you to identify channeling problems and adjust your technique accordingly to improve the espresso quality.

4. Replacing the drip tray

The standard drip grid on the Dedica offers only limited space, especially when using larger cups or when working with bottomless portafilters. A different drip tray or a flatter drip tray creates more space and makes handling easier. This is particularly helpful if you want to use larger cups for Lungo or Americano. You can find such drip grids/drip trays in our shop , for example.

5. Regular cleaning and descaling

Keep your machine clean by regularly removing coffee oils and residues from the brewing group. You should also regularly descale the Dedica according to the water hardness in your region to extend its lifespan and ensure good coffee taste.

6. Warming up the portafilter

Before each extraction, you should perform an empty extraction to bring the portafilter up to temperature. This ensures a constant brewing temperature and improves the taste of the espresso.

7. Invest in a high-quality coffee grinder

Freshly ground coffee is crucial for a good espresso. It is advisable to invest in a high-quality grinder in order to be able to precisely adjust the grinding level and optimise the extraction. For starters, the Graef CM 800 * is an excellent coffee grinder at a low price. We have been using it for 3 years now.

If you implement all of these tips, you can exploit the full potential of your De'Longhi Dedica and brew delicious espresso, just like a barista would.
