Why upgrade the Dedica?
The De'Longhi Dedica is one of the most popular entry-level espresso machines in German-speaking countries – compact, reliable, and affordable. However, the included standard accessories leave a lot of extraction potential untapped.
While the standard portafilter with pressure valve forgives mistakes, it also prevents you from seeing what's really happening in the cup.
With a few targeted upgrades, you can get noticeably more out of the same machine: better crema, more even extraction, and more control over every shot.
In this guide, we'll go through the meaningful upgrades one by one – and show you what to look out for regarding compatibility.
First check: Which Dedica do you have? (EC685 vs. EC885)
Before you buy accessories, the most important question is: Which model do you have on your kitchen counter? Because not every part fits every Dedica.
The EC680 and EC685 models use a portafilter with a 51 mm diameter and a 3-lug attachment. Most tuning accessories are designed for this series.
The Dedica Maestro series (e.g., EC9335 / La Specialista), on the other hand, is a completely different system – accessories for the EC685 will not fit here. If you confuse them, you'll get parts that cannot be mounted.
For the EC885, check briefly before buying: Compare the diameter (51 mm) and the number of locking lugs on your original portafilter to ensure that standard accessories will fit.
When in doubt: Compare the shape and number of locking lugs on your original portafilter. If it matches the 51mm 3-lug standard, the standard tuning accessories are suitable for you.
The bottomless Portafilter
What are the benefits of a bottomless portafilter?
The bottomless portafilter lacks the base and spout – you look directly at the underside of the basket. This is more than just optics: you can see exactly how the espresso is extracting. If it flows evenly and centrally, your preparation is correct. If it splashes sideways or individual streams form, you have "channeling" – a sign of uneven tamping or grind size.
In short: The bottomless portafilter is your best diagnostic tool for consistently pulling better espresso. Incidentally, it also provides noticeably more crema.
Compatibility with the Dedica
Look for 51 mm diameter and 3 lugs – the standard for EC680 and EC685. Our portafilters are precisely matched to this, rather than generic "fits somehow" offers.
The Dosing Funnel
The dosing funnel sits on top of the portafilter and prevents coffee grounds from spilling out during filling.
Especially with the 51mm Dedica and its compact basket, this is a real everyday win – no more scattered powder on the work surface.
Drip tray & drip-off upgrades
The standard Dedica drip tray is functional but not very flexible. A customized or flatter drip tray offers two advantages: you can fit taller cups and glasses under the spout, and the drip area stays cleaner.
Anyone who uses latte glasses or larger cappuccino cups will notice the difference immediately.
Further accessories: Puck Screen, Tamper, Distributor
A few smaller upgrades complete the setup:
Puck Screen: A fine metal mesh placed on top of the coffee puck. It distributes the incoming water more evenly, reduces channeling, and keeps the brew group cleaner.
Tamper (51 mm): A precise tamper of the correct size is a basic prerequisite for even tamping. The standard spoon that comes with the Dedica is not sufficient for this.
Distributor: Distributes the coffee grounds evenly in the basket before tamping – this reduces unevenness and ensures a more consistent extraction.
Order: Where to start?
